What is the theme of this photo shoot? If you have a theme that would be complemented by a natural backdrop or a certain type of building, you should seek out nearby spots that would be suitable. Not sure what sort of background you’re after? You can try driving around your city searching for inspiration. It’s likely that there are stunning spots nearby that you have overlooked. Reach out to the people you know and see if they have any suggestions.
You should also confirm that it will be legal to shoot photos at the location you’re considering. If the area is not public property, or if it is not accessible to the public, you’ll need to request permission.
Can you access the location? The outdoor location you have in mind might not be open all year. You may be able to access the location. You’ll also want to make sure you stay safe during your photo shoot. While a mountain ledge can make a beautiful backdrop, shooting in a spot like that involves putting yourself at risk.
How will you get to your location? Will you have a spot to change clothing and fix hair and makeup before the shoot begins? Can you walk to the location, or will you need to drive? You may need to use the bathroom during your shoot, which is why you should also confirm that there’s a bathroom nearby.
