Wedding Photography Tips

Pye Jirsa from SLR Lounge and Jay. P Morgan from The Slanted Lens discusses ten photography tips that will help you plan, anticipate, and execute flawless shoots from start to finish. For a more comprehensive list of Wedding Photography Tips, see this article on SLR Lounge.

1. Mood Boards

Mood boards are a  visual communication tool that allows you to understand what overall mood & feel clients want their images to yield.

2. Condensed Itinerary

Summarize the wedding day timeline and send it out to your team to ensure everyone fully understands the flow of the wedding day.

3. Arrive Early & Location Scout

Arriving early and scouting for ideal shooting locations gives you the upper hand advantage when you are running against the clock.

4. Sunseeker

This app allows you to track the sun at any given point of the day, helping you plan and budget appropriate time for perfectly lit portraits.

5. Syncing Camera Time

Having all of your shooters sync their cameras to Time.gov will allow for a more efficient workflow when it comes to post-producing your images. This is a great tip since many times, shooters start in different locations, and in order to edit pictures in a chronological sequence, it is imperative to have time settings synced to avoid repetitive images during the culling process.

6. Manual, Manual, Manual

Dial in your camera settings according to each scene to facilitate the post-production process.

7. Posing Framework

When you are pinched for time during a portrait session, having this framework in place allows you to accomplish what you’ve envisioned.

8. Triple Check: Camera Settings, Batteries, & Cards

Syncing camera settings with your team will ensure clean shots to make post production simple and easy. Always make sure to have ample battery power and memory space before shooting any major moment.

9. Star Your Images

Selecting the couples’ favorite shots throughout the day is a fantastic way to know which images to use to create teasers and which images should appear in a same-day slideshow.

10. Same-Day Slideshow

Create a simple same-day slideshow by batch processing a series of images. This will serve as a phenomenal marketing tool, letting your work speak for itself.
